Uilleann pipes

Leonard Barry Uilleann Piper

Praise for new album Littoral.

“Littoral is a masterclass in uillean piping, with top-notch, varied accompaniment and production. It showcases the wealth of influences on Leonard’s playing, his considerable skill and his deep knowledge of the instrument, Uillean piping albums don’t come along often, and ones this good are rare.” www.folkradio.co.uk

Leonard Barry’s new recording “Littoral” shows remarkable depth and good taste. This is real Irish piping from a master in his prime, with sympathetic backing by an equally qualified group of noted traditional musicians. The pipes-flute-fiddle front line rides above the accompaniment which compliments his effective use of the drones and regulators. It’s also a nice snapshot of the current trad scene in Sligo where Barry currently resides.”  Tim O’Brien

Launched at Celtic Connections in Glasgow in January 2024, Littoral  is Leonard’s third solo album and his first in ten years. The recording is a reflection on growing up near Banna Strand in Kilmoyley in North Kerry and on where he now lives in Sligo on the coast of the North West.

Produced by world renowned Mike McGoldrick (Cappercaille, Mark Knopfler), Littoral features guests and material that map Leonard’s career and musical partnerships that he has fostered during his 30+ years playing Irish Traditional Music.

Andy Morrow of County Leitrim and Shane McGowan from Sligo feature heavily on the CD reflecting of 20+ years of playing music together, other guests include Legendary fiddle player Kevin Burke ( the Bothy Band, Patrick St.) , Michael Holmes and Brian McDonagh ( Dervish) and Seamie O’Dowd (Christy, Moore, Martin O’Connor) and the much sought after brilliant Scottish Cellist Alice Allen.
